Staycation Sunday-Robert Frost Farm Derry New Hampshire

I went to the Robert Frost Farm in Derry,New Hampshire to walk the trail with some co-workers recently. The only downside was we went on a Tuesday and the farm is open for visitors Wednesday through Sundays (May 5-June 27, Daily June 28-September 6 10am-4pm). I wanted to tour the house and get a map to find out what the significance of the numbered markers were throughout the trail.

I plan on going back soon. It is a great way to spend a Sunday at only $4 per adult (NH residents) 18-64 and is free for youth and senior citizens. Non-resident adults are $5 and youths are $3 (0-5 are free). [Read more...]

Staycation Sunday-Paying Homage to the Old Man of the Mountain

It’s been ten years since the Old Man of the Mountain, the symbol of NH, collapsed. Yesterday was a little chillier than we expected so we switched around our Saturday and Sunday plans and went for a drive. That little curve at the top of the mountain was where the profile of the old man’s face once was. While in the area, we went to the Basin as well. I have lived in NH since 1998 (minus my four year stint in Florida) and have never actually stopped to see it. What is a Basin? If you are thinking sink, you aren’t far off!

It’s pretty much rushing water running through a smooth basin-like formation. It’s pretty cool. I took a short video of it too so you can see it in action: [Read more...]

Staycation Sunday-Winter Fun in New Hampshire

I have an old friend who is moving to New Hampshire. In introducing her to all of what New Hampshire has to offer (in the winter), I figured it would also make a great post for anyone else who lives or will be visiting the area. Some places I know more about than others, but I felt it was fair to add in places that may not be a good fit for me, but are popular for many!

1. Skiing-I personally don’t ski, but there are PLENTY of places to go. My husband used to gig at a lot of the resorts and the ones I am most familiar with and can vouch for are Ragged Mountain in Danbury, Cannon Mountain (this is for more experienced skiers!) in Franconia Notch State Park in the White Mountains, and Gunstock in Gilford.

2. Sleigh Ride Socials at Canterbury Farm in Candia, NH

3. Zeb’s General Store in Conway, NH which has a lot of other shopping as well!

4. The Muse Paint Bar in Manchester, NH. I haven’t been here yet, but have heard great things and can’t wait for a girl’s night there. Inexpensive painting for a couple hours, canvas provided, and a bar and food are available. Fun times! [Read more...]

Staycation Sunday-Naples, Florida

I lived in Florida for four years so I thought a Staycation Sunday post about Naples would be fun for the south Florida readers or those visiting the area. Here is a list of things to do for a day and/or evening in Naples, Florida.

1. Waterside Shops-Enjoy the beautiful waterfalls and architecture while strolling around this upscale open-air shopping center.
Complimentary valet service is available 7 days a week.

2. Fifth Avenue South-In the heart of downtown Naples, Fifth Avenue South offers shopping, dining, and frequent art festivals. Enjoy this historic setting right near the beach.

3. Naples Zoo-In addition to the animal exhibits visitors can watch the Safari Canyon Theater Shows, and take the Primate Expedition Cruise (included with a regular ticket). [Read more...]

Staycation Sunday-Have a Me Day

What I wouldn’t give to have a FULL free day one Sunday. I need to have a me day! It would be nice just to do what I want at home or nearby. It never happens because I allow myself to take on way too much work. However, if all goes as planned next Sunday will be that day. No hubby or son, just ME. What I wouldn’t give to just relax in bed (if it is super cold, snowy, or rainy) and watch TV (although with cable gone, that isn’t likely) half the day and read and listen to podcasts the other half of the day. If it’s nice outside, I would love to find an inexpensive local event to enjoy by myself or with a friend.

Other ideas for the rest of you might include spending the day working on your favorite hobby, crafting, baking, or playing games online (or even better board games). The point is to do what you WANT to do and not worry about work or putting everyone else first for the day. It’s just a day, but it is a great way to recharge!

What do you or would you do on your me day? Quite honestly, I would probably feel guilty for not working, but even so I would enjoy myself immensely!
