There is an area in the back of the pillow with a twist off cap. There is a funnel which can be inserted once the cap is removed. The pillow is filled with 60-130 oz. of lukewarm tap water. For a softer pillow use less water. The firmer the pillow desired, the more water will be used. There are also instructions included on how to remove air pockets to avoid sloshing (I didn’t have this issue).
In the past, I have used a soft pillow so for this one I used around 60 ounces of water and tried the pillow for a few days. Although it wasn’t uncomfortable, it wasn’t what I expected. I added another 20 ounces and it made a world of difference for me. I have been using it with the additional water for over a week and it is very comfortable and I seem to be sleeping better at night as well.
My husband was worried the pillow would leak but the cap fits very tightly so there is no need to worry. The manufacturer suggest that the water only needs to be changed yearly.
I believe the Mediflow Waterbase Pillow is a wonderful investment for anyone looking for a comfortable pillow for a better night’s sleep. It is also a money saver due to the ability of being able to add water to change the level of firmness rather than having to go out and buy a new pillow.
