Steps to Finding a New Home

Searching for a new home is a long and often tedious process. Taking your time to look for the perfect home is essential. After all, this is where you will spend a great deal of time for several years to come.

First and foremost, the search for a new home should start in the area you prefer. For example, if you are looking for a new home in the Greenville, SC area, start your search with new homes for sale greenville sc.  Once you have modified the search to the desired area, the next step is to decide on the price range.  Make sure you speak to a your bank (or lender of choice) and see how much you are pre-approved for.

Next, is the search for the right real estate agent. Ask friends, family, and co-workers for references. If no one has a recommendation, check online for reviews for local agents. Your agent should be licensed and have thorough knowledge of the area you will perform your search for a new home. The agent should also let you know up front how long you are contracted to work with him or her and what their commission will be.

Begin looking at homes with your new agent. Takes notes and pictures for each home. Once you find the home you want to purchase, spend some time in the neighborhood. Walk around and talk to neighbors. They will often offer you more insight about the neighborhood such as if there is any crime, unfriendly neighbors, and their thoughts on the local schools.

After you have submitted a contract and your offer is accepted, there are a few final steps to take. You will need to have a home inspection. Be sure and go through the home with the inspector and ask questions. If there are any major repairs to be done, it may be time to renegotiate the price.

Next you will secure your lending, purchase homeowner’s insurance (check the policy thoroughly), and then head to the closing. Make sure all your paperwork is in order before the closing date. Once you are at the table, take your time to understand everything you sign.

Finally, after all your thorough work, you will get your keys and be able to enjoy your new home.
