Recently we spent part of a chilly and overcast day in Gloucester, Massachusetts in combination with a trip to Salem,Massachusetts. Gloucester is best experienced during the summer but is worth checking out anytime you are in the area.
They have plenty of good restaurants and shops. You can also do a little sightseeing and see the beautiful homes in the area. Of course there are beaches as well and if the weather is warm, a whale watch is always fun. Another attraction I have heard that is interesting is Hammond Castle although I have yet to personally check it out.
The biggest attraction in the area is the Fisherman’s Memorial. Along with the famous 8 foot bronze statue there is a list of names of fishermen lost at sea over the years.
Gloucester is definitely worth a day trip for any New Englander to spend a day “staycationing”. I can’t wait to go back and spend a sunny summer day!
