Monday Musing-Giveaways

I love participating in giveaways for my readers. There are many I have stayed away from due to the item. For example,I stay away from kid’s items because this isn’t a mommy blog and I don’t think I am doing the item justice promoting it. According to my stats, it is a small amount of my readers who have kids. I also have stayed away from “frivoulous” (for lack of a better word) items. At first, I didn’t even understand why people were entering to win candles when I saw Diamond Candle giveaways. Then, I did a little research and found there are gem stones in them (which could be of value). I have passed on this type of giveaway many, many times because I thought, why would a frugal person buy something like this? I generally stick to household items, gift cards, coupons, and cash.

I also think it is difficult to promote things I don’t own or wouldn’t spend my money on. I am not saying Diamond Candles, Keurigs etc aren’t quality items. I honestly believe they are, I simply can’t justify spending my money on them personally. Then I had the opportunity in the same week for another Diamond Candle and a Keurig machine for giveaways. I was talking it over with a friend and she brought up a good point. Readers like entering these giveaways because they too can’t afford to buy items like this. However, it doesn’t mean they wouldn’t like a quality item like a Keurig, Diamond Candle, or otherwise.

Thus, I am participating in giving away a Keurig and Diamond Candle this week. Do you enjoy these type of giveaways or is it a double standard for someone who promotes spending your money wisely (emergency funds, IRA’s etc.)? I would love your feedback!

I love entering sweepstakes to win things that I like but wouldn’t usually buy on my fixed income.
