My desk sits in a corner and I only have one nearby outlet with a lot of stuff to plug in (lamp, laptop, camera, printer, cell phone). Considering I am plugging in expensive electronics, it is imperative I have a good surge protector. I was thrilled to have the change to try the Bits Limited Smart Strip Surge Protector. This is a high quality surge protector that is color coded. The following information is right from Bits:
· There are several “Hot Outlets”, colored red, that you would plug devices that need constant energy in to (Alarm clock, DVR etc).
· The green outlets are for your TV, your printer and other devices that do not need to be drawing constant energy from the grid. (Most people do not realize that any device that is plugged in is pulling energy from the grid and costing them money. The device “unplugs” those outlets when not in use.
· The third color outlet, blue, will activate the green outlets when that device is turned on. Say you plug in your laptop, it will then “plug in” your printer.
· This device also tells you when the MOV (The actual surge protector inside) has degraded from surges so you know to replace it before it burns your house down.
I was also sent some colored bulbs to give it a try.
I have been using the surge protector for about six weeks now. My electric bill was $4 less compared to this time last year (and it was a much warmer August this year). The surge protector is said to save about $40 a year and it is on track so far. This is a very well made surge protector with a heavy duty cord. *I received a surge protector and light bulbs in order to facilitate my review. No monetary compensation was received and all opinions are 100% my own.
