Want to learn for free? I was listening to a Clark Howard podcast last night and was reminded of something. I knew courses were available from major universities for free. I had listened to a few sessions of a course (via podcast) when I lived in Florida. However, life got in the way, time passed, and it was out of sight, out of mind.
If you are looking to learn more about a subject you know a bit about, learn about a new subject/skill, or (like me) need to show you are staying active in your field to renew a certification, this may be your solution. I am due to renew my teaching certificate in the next year. I was going to see about auditing a course (an audit is usually half price because you don’t receive the actual course credits). However, the idea of continuing my education from the comfort of my own home at no cost is quite exciting!
The site Mr. Howard specifically suggested checking out is Coursera. I haven’t signed up yet, but have looked at the list of offerings. There are classes available in health care, history, finance, engineering, and much more. I can’t wait to delve in deeper! I would also recommend checking out iTunes for courses. I no longer have my iPod touch so I don’t know what is currently available. However, when I was listening to courses in the past, I got them from a major university right on iTunes.
Continuing education is important no matter what your path is in life. You may as well continue it for free and put it on your résumé while you are at it! Enjoy!
Did you miss the last Thrifty Thursday?
