I consider myself an educated person. However, sometimes it is a great feeling to be blissfully ignorant. I got rid of cable over two months ago and there is no turning back. I have personally not turned the television on once since we got rid of it. Sure, my husband has it on a couple times a day for an hour or two, but personally I have learned to live without it. I don’t have to hear the same news stories what seems like a hundred times each. I don’t have to see reality show commercials, or for that matter any commercials.
If I want to know what is going on in the world, I can read the news online and only read what I want to see. I can’t believe how many hours I used to waste watching junk I could really care less about. I had to think long and hard about what it was I am supposedly missing now. I would watch some news shows and be upset about horrific things going on. It’s not as if I don’t care about the world now, I am simply no longer overexposed. I am not watching the same movies four times a month just to pass the time.
What do I do now? I spend more time working, but that is fun for me (very true). I also went back to listening to podcasts (mostly financial, but some with some really good old fashioned stories) anda bit more reading. Being blissfully ignorant is not only “freeing” emotionally, it is “freeing” financially as well. My checking account appreciates having more money in it!
