If you live in New England a trip to the Stowe, Vermont area makes a wonderful day trip. I am not a Sound of Music fan but going to the Trapp Family Lodge was still very interesting. As you can see, it is beautiful. The Von Trapps (the family in the movie) moved to Vermont around 1942. Apparently, four children are still alive (one of the original and three from the second marriage between Maria and Georg, the father of all of the children).
Just a few miles from the Trapp Family Lodge is Ben and Jerry’s main location. You can check it out and do a tour for as little as $4 per adult.
We toured both today and took the back roads along the way. All the driving and touring still ended up in less than an 8 hour trip (starting in southern NH). I definitely recommend this scenic and cheap road trip for a close to home “Staycation Sunday”.
