Staycation Sunday-Michigan

Earlier I wrote a post about whether or not taking vacations are worth the cost when the future is uncertain. I am due to go visit my friends and family in Michigan in a few days. When it comes down to it, I have too many commitments (and things I paid for in advance) to back out. So, on a more positive note, here are a few things to do in southern Michigan. I grew up there so it is interesting to play “tourist” for a change. Any of these would make a great “Staycation Sunday” if you live in Michigan. Be sure and look around for discounts before you go. Here are my personal suggestions (based on my own trip next week):

Frankenmuth-Frankenmuth, MI-Michigan’s Little Bavaria has plenty to do including Bronner’s Christmas store, outlet stores, and water parks. There is great food too!

Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village- Dearborn, MI-Learn about the history of Ford, see just about any car you can think of and much more. There is also an IMAX theater.

Heritage Park-Taylor, MI-The park includes a petting farm, a great walking path, grills, picnic tables, shops, and baseball diamonds. Check our their festival June 27-July 1st, 2012 (Fireworks are scheduled for Saturday, June 30th).

Kensington Metropark-Milford/Brighton MI-Check out the site on this one. It includes wildlife and water but this will personally be my first visit so I don’t know much.

These are just a few of many things to do in the area for a fun, inexpensive Staycation Sunday in southern Michigan. Enjoy!
